Overview:
The Innovator's Dilemma is a ground-breaking book into why leading firms failed despite doing what conventional wisdom said they should do with regards to looking after their best customers.

At the heart of this book is the concept of Disruption, which later on in his career Christensen was frustrated to see was becoming overused and diluted as a term. This book will help you understand what is seen by many to be the original description of the term as it relates to business competition and describes two "playbooks" which can be used to help the reader understand the risk (or opportunity) of disruption for their own organisation.

If you want to understand what disruption is all about, this is the original book and study which led to the understanding of disruption.

The Innovators Dilemma was followed up with a second book on this subject by Christensen called The Innovator's Solution.

The Innovator's Dilemma focuses on how the competition may create new value propositions that outperform your current value proposition, and may be hard to replicate, or simply make your value proposition irrelevant. (Bottom Left box)

The two playbook's described Christensen can then be mapped out on the top two boxes - the External Environment Map and the Key Numbers Graph.
